I was going to write a message, but this post says it ALL! I am so sorry, Charlie, that you are going through this - most especially that your sweet children will suffer the most. Unfortunately, unless there is some miraculous change in D. Richards, it will continue all the rest of your children's lives (and grandchildren's - it never stops, believe me).
There had been a change in the way courts looked at accusations like hers, and I hope it is the same now. If a parent is shown to be actively trying to destroy the other parent-child relationship by lies etc, then custody (often FULL custody) will be awarded to the other parent. It's an extension of the idea that primary custody will be awarded to the parent who shows the most willingness to be a co-parent, support the relationship of the children and visitation with the other parent.
I had thought I'd write you, Charlie, and tell you about our experiences, but I'm just a nobody and how could I ever reach a famous person like you??? Then I heard this latest accusation (today's news), and I am so angry!!! So here I am on the internet, hoping this message will get to you.
I hope you know about this legal philosophy. There was a plethera of sexual abuse accusations against fathers, used to prevent visitation, and the courts reacted strongly against the mothers making the false claims. I know you have expensive lawyers, but sometimes the "voice of experience" can help as much, if not more!
I also encourage you to keep on fighting for your daughters. Please don't EVER stop! They will always love and need you, even if D. Richards is successful in her brain-washing sabatoge. Keep all the proofs you can that you tried to keep in touch, see them, be a part of their lives, no matter how often or long you are rebuffed. One day they WILL be there, searching for you, whether it's five, ten, twenty years or longer.
Best scenerio, however, is that you are able to show the court how unstable your ex-wife is, how destructive her behavior (especially going to the press all the time), how damaging it is for your girls, and how it is in the best interests of your children that they be removed from that situation and placed with you. Plus, you were willing to ask for 50-50 custody and work things out quietly through the court system, and she has made the process a media circus.
